“KEEP WATCH"
NAVY LEAGUE FILM SCREENED CELEBRATING NELSON DAY “Keep Watch,” a special film screened at the Majestic Theatre last evening, was one of the principal features of the observance of the 124th anniversary of Kelson Hay, arranged by the Auckland branch of the Navy League. Specially prepared by the Navy League, the picture, which was presented for the first time in New Zealand, deals with the necessity for maintainng an adequate navy to protect the British Empire and her 85,000 miles of commerce routes. The comparative strengths of the navies and the extent of the empires of the principal nations were shown, together with many interesting “shots” of various units of the British Fleet at sea, during manoeuvres and at battle practice. Units of the Naval Arm of the Royal Air Force were shown in flight and a submarine was seen as it emerged from the waves. Included in glimpses of the Empire were views of Queen Street, Auckland, and the naval base at Hevonport. An increase in the membership of the league is the principal object of the film, which was interesting both from an educational and an entertainment point of view. A number of talking pictures were also shown.
