UNION SECRETARIES MEET ALLIANCE OFFICIAL CALLED Trade union secretaries are meet- ! ing this afternoon to discuss further j the dispute between the tramwaymen j and the Auckland Transport Board. The secretary of the Alliance of , Labour. Mr. J. Roberts, is coming up from Wellington on Friday to go into , the dispute from the viewpoint, of the j Alliance. At today's meeting at the Trades Hall reports as to the nature of the trouble will be received from representatives of the union, and a decision will be sought as to what attitude should he taken in connection with the efforts of the Transport Board to be joined as a party to the Local Bodies’ Labourers’ award—a step that has been described by the Auckland district council of the Alliance of Labour as “a systematic attempt to smash the Tramwaymen’s Union.” It is expected that the Auckland District Council of the Alliance will meet over the week-end. Veitch, an urgent question today as to the Auckland Transport Board and its attitude to the Tramways Union, but because of the absence of Mr. Veitch till late in the afternoon, the question has been postponed till tomorrow.
