I APPLE BUNS | Four cupfuls of finely-chopped § apples, three-quarters of a cupful H of brown sugar, two teaspoonfuls H of cinnamon, a tablespoonful of g butter, two cups of self-raising g flour, and milk to moisten. Sieve § H flour into a bowl with a pinch of ff g salt, and add sufficient milk to g H make a nice dough which will roll ff || out Into a square about a quarter g ff of an inch in thickness. Place each bit ( cut side g ft downwards') on a well-buttered g I baking dish , and bake in a slow ff oven for about 40 minutes. Be- g move from the dish, and serve ff very hot, dusted with fine sugar. g TOASTED CHEESE CANAPES | Cut some well-flavoured cheese U H into very thin slices, and pile gen- g g erously on rounds of bread . ff g Sprinkle with salt, pepper, thus- g g tard , and a few drops of Worcester ff i sauce. Place under the grill or in ff a very hot oven and toast for 10 ff minutes. Serve immediately, ff otherwise the cheese will cool and g I LEMON PATTY CAKES » H Take two eggs, ilb butter, \Tb » H sugar, one lemon (grated rind and it g juice), one heaped cup of four, H ff one level teaspoonful of baking || ff powder. Method: Heat butter and g H sugar together, add the eggs g g {beaten). Then work the baking g || ’powder into the flour, and add this, if g with the lemon juice and rind, to H g the mixture. Put into greased § g patty tins or cases. Decorate each if ft top with a piece of candied peel ff g and bake. g
