Old-Time Dance
BIRKENHEAD FUNCTION FOR CARNIVAL QUEEN A successful and enjoyable old-time dance was held in the Victoria Hall, Birkenhead, on Saturday evening, in the interests of the Business Queen Miss G. Utting. The hall was brightly decorated in the queen’s colours. • Mr. Les Kell: successfully carried out the duties o. M.C., and the music supplied by Mis: B. Stayte’s orchestra was greatly ap preciated. Mrs. L. Kelly and Mr. J. Payne wer the winners of the spot waltz. The winners of the final heat of th waltzing competition were:—Miss V Hawkins and Mr. C. Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Wrightson, and Miss Mentzer anc Mr. Pugh. The queen chose a frock of aprico georgette, with gold-tipped frills an. posy. Among those present were: Airs. O’Connor, who wore a mauve satin frock; Airs. A. Aloon, in orchid crept de chine relieved with oriental trimming Airs. E. Turvey, wearing green crepe de chine and silver lace; Airs. A. Clow, wh« had on black lace over satin, and posy to tone; Airs. M. Cameron, in a frock o: black georgette, with diamente trimmings; Airs. R. ATcKins try, saxe blue crepe de chine, with beige trimmings: Airs. Beckman, lemon georgette frock Airs. A. Norton, royal blue relieved with gold; Mrs. A, Wrightson, bois de rose crepe de chine and posy; Airs. A. K Deller, midnight blue crepe de chine with insets of champagne lace: Miss A O'Shea, Mount Eden, crimson crepe de chine, with uneven hemline and posy, shawl to tone; Miss G. Revell. alice blue satin with gold lace hem and posy, shawl to tone; Aliss M. Scott, Herne Ray, mauve georgette, fringed tiered skirt, with shawl to tone; Aliss V Town, nile green georgette and tulle frock; Aliss Crombie, lemon crepe de chine relieved with silver, shawl to tone; Aliss Donohoe, sea green crepe de chine and lace frock. Aliss E. Rout, who chose daffodil satin relieved with black lace frills; Aliss N. Yellands, wearing sea green crepe de chine, with silver trimmings: Aliss T. Stinner, white satin and net frills; Aliss V. Hawkins, blue crepe de chine and lace frock; Miss Ruby Hay son, green lace with uneven hem: Aliss V. Aloody. georgette with uneven hem. and shawl; Miss E. Ross, vieux rose chenille with diamente relief. and hand-embi*oidered shawl; Aliss Olga Mentzer. rose pink face, with posy to tone: Aliss Zoe Alentzer, silver lame and phlox pink georgette, with Spanish shawl. LYCEUM CLUB LITERARY CIRCLE EVENING ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME At the Lyceum Club on Friday evening, the literary'- circle members and friends had the pleasure of hearing Air. and Airs. Andrew Beresford. Air. Beresford gave a very artistic performance of four scenes from Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar,” which was much appreciated by his audience. Between the acts. Airs. Ludbrook and Aliss Hood, of the musical circle, played as interludes the overture to “A Alidsummer Night’s Dream” and “Legende” by Dvorak The second half of the programme was a one-act play called “His Rest Day.” in which Air. and Airs. Beresford gave a perfect characterisation of a typical Cockney workman and a lady of fashion. Mrs. Dickinson, vice-president, presided.
