, PROGRAMME FOR NEW YEAR Many good horses have had their names inscribed on the turf records as the winner of the Marton Cup. Nightmarcli won last year after a good finish with Star Area and Historic. The three previous Marton Cups were won by Stormy, Rapier \nd Grand Knight. For its summer meeting a couple of months hence, on January 1 and 2, the Marton Jockey Club lias drawn up a programme similar to that staged last season. The Marton Cup is again worth £GOO, with the owner of the winner to receive a handsome £SO gold cup. The complete schedule for the two days’ racing on January 1 and 2 next is as follows: FIRST DAY TRIAL PLATE, of £120; 6 furlongs. HACK HURDLES HANDICAP, of £150; 15 miles. JUVENILE HANDICAP, of £150; 5 furlongs. MARTON CUP, of £6OO (including cup value £SO, donated by the Rangitikei Hunt Club); 11 miles. DASH HACK, of £150; 6 furlongs. RAILWAY HANDICAP, of £275; 6 | furlongs. ; NEW YEAR HACK, of £160; 1 mile and 137 yards. STEWARDS’ HANDICAP, of £200; 7 furlongs. SECOND DAY JUNCTION PLATE HANDICAP, of £140; 5 furlongs. HACK HURDLES, of £140; I 3 miles. ALDWORTH STAKES (Open), of £350; 1 mile and 137 yards. ELECTRIC HACK, of 140; 7 furlongs. TELEGRAPH HANDICAP, of £200; 6 furlongs. LADIES’ BRACELET, of £110; 1 mile and 137 yards. TURAKINA HANDICAP, of £185; 7 furlongs. FAREWELL HACK, of £140; 5 furlongs. SPORTSMAN INJURED I 3 rests Association MASTERTON, Sunday, j Mr. W. H. Ballinger, the well-known j Wellington owner, was kicked by Potoaform at Masterton on Saturdaj’, while the horses were parading in the birdcage prior to the Lawn Handicap. Mr. Ballinger was rendered unconscious and was sent to the Masterton Hospital, but at latest advices his condition is better.
