TAISHO AT WEIGHT-FOR-AGE FATE OF LEONTES • United /‘.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, Wednesday. | A few days after Red Fuchsia put up record time at Riccarton for two miles over hurdles, the Victorian jumper Leontes clipped a fraction off the new figures. At Caulfield today Leontes ran his last race, falling heavily and breaking his neck. Tlio Victoria Amateur Turf Clull’s meeting was continued in ideal spring weather, and there was a large attendance at Caulfield, several New Zealanders being present. In the decision of the Emo Hurdle Race Kendler registered a good performance winning in good style in a
fast run race. lie is trained by the New Zealander, Stan Reid. There was an exciting finish for the Nursery Handicap between First Legion and Deyious, the race being won in the lust few strides. The winner cost 300gns as a yearling. The Caulfield Cup candidate Tai.slio had a comfortable victory in the Herbert Power Stakes, the time being only half a second off the course record for the distance. Glenanton. who was prominent all the way in the Moonga Handicap and ner, Aga Khan. Prince Viol won the Coongy Handicap easily. Second Wind finished well and enhanced his Melbourne Cud prospects. 9 Versatile was third early in tlie Moora Welter, and finished well. El Key. who finished second, is engaged in tlie Caulfield Cup.
