BETTER SURFACE SOON

HAMiLTON-NGARUAWAHIA ROAD IMPROVEMENT EXPEDITED (Special to THE SUN) TE AWAMUTU, Wednesday. The expediting of the bitumen surfacing of the Ngaruawahia-Hamilton section was discussed at the meeting of the Waipa County Council yesterThe engineer said he had prepared for cutting down grades and improving alignment, so that the work could bo put in hand this .summer, and be consolidated in readiness for the bitumen next summer. However, the Public Works Department engineer at Hamilton and the chairman of the Xo. 2 District Highways Council desired first to have full details of the whole scheme. The engineer suggested as preferable the laying-oft of the HamiltonNgaruawahia nine miles and the getting of approval for carrying out the earthwork this season. The council’s share of the cost could bo met out of general funds, as the ratepayers would later be asked to sanction a loan for the complete work. The council agreed to this course, which means that the HamiltonNgaruawahia section of road can be completed 32 months sooner than would otherwise be the case.
