4YA DUNEDIN OPENED
NEW BROADCASTING STATION RECEPTION IN AUCKLAND Auckland radio enthusiasts had another station to provide entertainment for them last evening, when the new Dunedin broadcasting station, 4YA, was officially opened. Tlie Postmaster-General, the Hon. J. B. Donald, performed the opening ceremony from Wellington by telephone to Dunedin. Despite the fact that atmospheric conditions were not of the best, Mr. Donald’s remarks were received clearly in Auckland, also a speech by the 'Mayor of Dunedin, Mr. R. S. Black. An excellent programme followed. Though transmission from the new station was louder than that from the old station, there was not the valume that many anticipated, but this may have been due to the unfavourable conditions. The speeches and portion of the progrf*mme was rebroadcast by IYA Auckland and 3YA Christchurch, and through these stations were well received in Auckland. The new station is the same power as those at Auckland and Christchurch. and has the most up-to-date equipment.
