FOOTBALL DINNER

BUSINESS FIRMS’ MATCHES A dinner was held at tho Thistle Hotel on Saturday evening by members of the Rugby football teams of the staffs of Hardley’s, Ltd., and the Farmers’ Trading Company. Mr. D. Henderson, who was in the chair, congratulated the rival teams on their sportsmanlike spirit during the contest, and referred to the kindly relations existing between the business firms. Ho was pleased to see such wholesome rivalry between the employees, and felt assured it would continue. as the teams had each a win to their credit and intended playing another match on Saturday next to decide the “rubber.** It was his intention to offer a silver cup to the winning team on Saturday, the trophy to be played for annually between the representatives of the two firms. Mr. F. Baton, captain of the Farmers’ team, proposed the* toast of the winner of the last match. This was responded to by Mr. A. Hardley. Mr. R. Hardley proposed the toast of the losers, and Mr. A. Langley responded on their behalf. Mr. Bert Thompson, in a very eulogistic speech, proposed the health of Mr. McKee, who, he said, had put in a great deal of hard work and enthusiasm in arranging the matches. Eulogistic reference was also made to Air. F. MeAneny, who refereed the second match.
