Barnard (Napier) has given notice in the House of Representatives to ask the Prime Minister ■whether his attention has been drawn , to the recent published statements, made at the annual conference of the New Zealand Stock Ex- 1 changes, and also at the conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, emphasising the urgent need for an amendment to the Companies Act. so as to protect the investing public, and especially small investors, from wildcat schemes and flotations, which constitute a trap for the unwary, and if so. will the Government legislate so as to afford the public reasonable protection? Mr. Barnard said that it was stated at the conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, held on October 14 in Auckland, that a number of companies had been floated, more particularly in the North, which should never have been allowed by law.
