SHIPOWNERS’ BOYCOTT

MARITIME CONFERENCE WILL PROCEED A UNIQUE SITUATION Australian and N.Z. Press Association GENEVA, Sunday. The Maritime Conference has been reduced to representatives of the various Governments and the workers’ delegates. It has been decided to carry on. The workers express the opinion that all the shipowners seized upon the objection to the British workers’ representatives as an excuse for an attempt to torpedo the conference and prevent the adoption of the eighthour day system. The situation is unique. The shipowners believe the conference cannot constitutionally carry on in view of the treaty provision that it must represent the Governments, workers and employers.

The owners’ withdrawal from the conference is described as an affront to the British Government, the Trades Union Congress and the Labour Office.
