WAGE DISPUTE SETTLED
BRITISH RAILWAYMEN’S AGREEMENT
FIVE HOURS’ CONFERENCE British Official Wireless RUGBY, Sunday. As a result of a five hours’ conference between representatives of the railway companies and the three railway trades unions the wages controversy was settled. A provisional agreement was reached to continue the 2$ per cent, reduction of wages and salaries for a further period of six months, and then to revert to the former rates, with the condition that no application for a general revision of wages shall be made before November, 1930.
This arrangement requires the endorsement of the delegate conferences of the three unions, and also, though this is only a formal matter, of the railway directorates. There is scarcely a doubt about the acceptance of the arrangement by the unions. In the first place the companies asked for a continuation of the reduction for 12 months as against six months now arranged.
