NEW SCENIC ROUTE

WORK ON CAPE RUNAWAY ROAD

SEA VIEWS AND BUSH From Our Own CoTrcspondent OPOTIKI, Today. It is confidently expected that the Opotiki County Council will complete its portion of the East Coast main road via Capo Runaway next year. The road from Opotiki to Mareahako, about 20 miles from Matakaoa County boundary, is expected to be open by Christmas. A good portion of the remaining distance to the boundary is already roaded and at tlie present time a large number of .unemployed relief workers are engaged in building different sections of the road. The opinion is expressed that next year it will be possible to travel from Opotiki, via Cape Runaway, to Gisborne. Those who have travelled over the route the road will take state that a most w r onderful view of coastal scenery can be seen from the road, which runs along the sea coast practically tlie whole of the distance. This drive will prove attractive to tourists, who travel over what is probably the most beautiful of the coastal roads in tlie Dominion. The road skirts many beautiful little bays and numerous rivers are crossed, while standing at the back of the road is Raukumara Range, with its lofty peaks. Splendid bush scenery abounds along the whole length of the route, and in many places the road travels high above the sea.
