TO CELEBRATE JUBILEE

REUNION OF SCHOLARS PROPOSALS AT MOUNT EDEN A reunion of old scholars on Saturday, December 7, will mark the golden jubileo of the Mount Eden district school. Funds for improvements to the ground will be sought on the same occasion. A small hall at the corner of Mount Eden and Valley Roads served as the first school, the headmaster at its opening in 1877 being Mr. Percy E. Stevens. When the school opened on its present site on .\s)ril 1, 1879, the headmaster was the Rev. P. S. Smallfield. There were 23 scholars on the first day and 43 on the second. Several of these are still living in the Mount Eden district. The school grew so rapidly that in 1882 many had to be turned away through lack of accommodation. The school has always been noted for its fine grounds and swimming baths, and it is now desired to make further improvements.
