MELBOURNE TO BLUFF
DETAILS OF NEW SHIPPING SERVICE MILFORD SOUND VISITS ; From Our Own Correspondent DUNEDIN, Thursday. Details of the new Melbourne-Bluff j shipping: service were received by the ! Dunedin Chamber of Commerce at its | last meeting from the Postmasterj General, the Hon. J. B. Donald. Hour | calls would be made at Milford Sound ; during the summer, said the letter, | and in winter the service would be I continued by a single vessel, travelling j via Bluff. j The secretary of the chamber reported that a reply had been-sent saying that the chamber and business people would give the service every support, but that it was felt the reversion to a three-weekly sailing in winter would militate against the service, owing to the uncertainty of the dates of sailing and the difficulty of making connections with oversea vessels at Melbourne. Copies of the letters had been sent to the associated public bodies in the South Island and also to the Hobart Chamber of Commerce. The chairman, Mr. A. H. Allen, re- ! gretted that the service was not to be j uniform all the year round, as he felt , that would have added greatly to its success.
