CHILD WELFARE

WIDER INTEREST BEING TAKEN FREQUENCY OF BEQUESTS ‘ The frequency of bequests to social 1 service organisations throughout New Zealand indicates a peculiar present-, day interest in child welfare," said Uie | Rev. G. Budd at the annual meeting of the Auckland Presbyterian Orphan- j ages’ and Social Service Association j yesterday. Mr. Budd said he hoped such be- j quests would continue, with, perhaps, ! a wider basis, as a great deal of work was being done for children who needed financial help and the help was not being received to the extenst which it might be. He referred particularly to the religious training of children's minds in a wider sphere than that of the orphanages. Mr. R. L. Stewart suggested that present gifts were better than bequests, because of the saving in duties.
