FIRE AT HAMILTON
COSTUMIER’S SHOP ABLAZE
GOOD SAVE BY BRIGADE i _____ Pi'om Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. A good save was affected by the Hamilton Fire Brigade just before midnight, when a fire broke out in premises known as Glencoe House, ! womeu’s costumiers, Victoria Street. The building was occupied by Miss Isabella Turner and owned by the Ridd Milking Machine Company, New Plymouth. The fire originated in the middle of three rooms, where there were shelves laden with valuable soft goods. A metal electric hat-blocker had been left with the current turned on, the heat causing a wooden bench to ignite. When the brigade arrived the middle room was in flames, and difficulty was experienced in forcing an entrance to it. The fire was confined to the room where it originated, but a great part of the remainder of the stock was damaged by smoke. The insurance on the stock was not extensive, and Miss Turner is a heavy loser. Costumes valued at £2OO and corsets valued at the same figure were ! completely destroyed in the store- { room. Part of the stock of the United | Shoe Company next door was slightly ! damaged by smoke.
