ROTORUA BURGLARIES
— « FIRE FOLLOWS ROBBERY MONEY TAKEN FROM TILL From Our Own Correspondent ROTORUA, Today. j On Monday, at about 9.30 p.m., Mr. I W. T. Pakes, was working in his shop in Fenton Street when he heard the sound of a window closing. He investigated, and discovered the office of Mr. M. Manson’s grocery shop in j flames, and saw a man disappearing. | He quickly informed the brigade, and the fire was soon under control, i In the meantime, the intruder whom ! Mr. Pakes had seen running away | escaped. j A typewriter was found to be missi ing from the shop. I Had Mr. Pakes not made the disj covery when he did, it is possible that a huge block of shops would have been destroyed.. Mr. Manson, who was in bed at the time of the outbreak, has an insurance cover with the Hartford Office. The same evening the grocery and j hardware store of Mr. Davidson, also In Fenton Street, was broken open. The till was ripped open, and £9 in notes was taken, although 32s in silver was left untouched. Entry was effected by the breaking of a pane of glass in a window at the rear of the premises. Detective White, of Hamilton, is investigating both affairs.
