REVENUE DECREASE

MAGISTRATE’S COURT THREEMONTHLY RETURNS There is a considerable decrease in revenue from fines and fees compared with the figures for the previous quarter, according to the quarterly returns issued by the Auckland Magistrate’s and Police Courts. During the past three months the criminal charges preferred against men totalled 2,649, while those against women were 205. a total of 2,854. The figures for the previous three months were 2,377 and 236. a total of 2.613. There were SI civil and 117 criminal sessions, compared with S 3 and 116 respectively. Civil fees amounted to £3,903 6s Gd. criminal fees to £656 15s Sd. and fines to £2.008 14s, a total of £ 6.568 16s 2d. The respective figures for the previous quarter were £4.424 17s, £589 10s 4d and £3.947 ISs 4d. amounting to £8.962 5s Sd. The total number of plaints entered was 4.024. the total amount sued for being £75,108 2s 7d. against 4.068 plaints. involving £113.285 16s lOd, during the previous quarter.
