SMART CADET CORPS

GOVERNOR-GENERAL PRAISES NELSON COLLEGE EFFICIENCY AND SKILL Press Association NELSON, Monday. Speaking at the conclusion of a parade of the Nelson College Cadets, the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, paid a unique tribute to the boys’ efficiency. He said that to him, as one who had had the task of drilling mc-n, it was a wonderful thing that the company could reach such a high standard and keep up to it, and carry on its ordinary activities as well. Sir Charles said he compared the Nelson College Cadets in his own mind with such schools in England as maintained officers’ training corps, and with the Sandhurst cadets, who drilled practically all day long. “I am not flattering you,” said His Excellency, “when I say there is no officers’ training corps which could hold a candid to you. and when I say you compare favourably with the Sandhurst cadets. Their work is more extensive than yours, but. as far as you go and in what you do. in your smartness and attention to detail you have nothing to learn from them.”
