Farm Labourer Found Dead Beside Shotgun
HELENSVILLE TRAGEDY HALF-CASTE SAMOAN With the top of his head shattered by the discharge of a shotgun, George Brighouse, a young labourer, was found in his room on the farm of Young Brothers at Wainui, about 12 miles from Helensvilie, early this morning. Brighouse, who was IS years of age, was a half-caste Samoan, and had been employed on the farm for about two months. According to information given by his employers to the Helensvilie police, he was of a happy disposition. He was in his usual good spirits this morning and carried out his duties of milking. After breakfasting well he washed up the dishes, and went to his room. There he apparently removed one of his hoots, it is stated, and placing one of his toes on the trigger of a shot-gun, fired into his head. It is believed that Brighouse has two sisters in St. Mary’s Orphanage, and his father is understood to be in Samoa.
