“SCANDAL” An absorbing drama starring Laura La Plante, is “Scandal.” notv at the Tivoli Theatre. Adapted from the screen from “The Haunted Lady,” a magazine story by Adela Rogers St. Johns. “Scandal” is one of the most unusual dramas of society yet Aimed. As a story it was widely commented upon, and as a picture it has attained a popular success. The lore of a former suitor for a happily married woman, at the pinnacle of Santa Barbara's exclusive social circles, causes the plot situation. The suitor makes a clandestine call upon her, only to learn later that this visit is his only alibi when he is I accused of a murder that occurred while he was there: To save the woman s reputation he j does not tell his alibi. This places the decision upon her shoulders. \\ lat she dees in this desperate predicament is the crux of the story. Laura La Plante, in the starring role, is the woman. Huntly Gordon is her handsome, polo-plaving husband and John Boles is the suitor. Miss La Plante’s performance is one of the finest of the season. Wesley Buggies, the director, has made the picture a brilliant and piercing drama of a woman's heart arid of millionaire society. “Looping the Loop.” a tremendous and thrilling spectacle of circus life, is the second attraction.
