AKARANA Following were the results of a monthly medal competition played bymembers of the Akarana Golf Golf Club on Saturday:—Seniors: H. A. Clarke, 87, 10 —77; O. E. Wahlstrom, 91 14 77; c. M. Cox, 92, 13—79. Junior's: P. J. McCarthy, 93, 20—73; J. R. Campbell, 98, 24 —74; C. B. Read, 23, 17—76; H. B. Taylor, 96, 20 —76. OPOTIKI Members of the Opotiki Golf Club brought the season to a close on Sat- j urday with mixed foursomes. The best j cards returned were:—Miss J. B. Wilson and R. M. Todd, 90, 25 —65; Mrs. | Burton and X>. S. Morris, 88, 19—69; I Miss Short and K. .J. Short, 89, 17 —72; ( Mrs. Forbes and P. G. Burton, 90, 18 — j A women's L.G.tT. match resulted: — j Mrs. Davey, 46, 14—32; Mrs. Birkmyer, i 49, 13 —36; Mrs. Jessop, 50, 13 —37. PAPAKURA The Papakura Golf Club's season was concluded on Saturday when trophies won during the season were presented by Mr. E. X>. McLennan, president of the club. Mixed foursomes were played during the afternoon, resulting in a win for G. A. Smith and Miss Andre with a net score of 48 for 12 holes. The next best scores were:—K. Matheson and Miss Rhind, 49; Croxon and Miss McLennan, 50; Mr. and Mrs. Pavitt, 50. The approach and putt competition was also won by Smith and Miss j Andre.
TAURANGA LADIES’ In the final of the senior championship of the Tauranga Ladies' Golf 1 Club, Miss M. Sanders defeated Miss F. Goodyear. 1 up at the 27th. In the final of the junior championship, Miss Hartley defeated Miss Renshaw, 4 and 3. The best card for the bogey competition for Mrs. Maltby's trophy was returned by Mrs. Baigent (27), who was 8 up. Other good cards were returned by Mrs. Mayfield (28). (> up, and Miss Hartley (30), 3 up. In the junior bogey match the best card was returned bv Miss C. Hall, 2 up. Other cards were: —Miss Turner, 1 down; Mrs. Beckett, 2 down. The final of the men’s golf championship between A. C. Anderson and R. Renshaw resulted in a win for Anderson on the 36th green, after a keen struggle throughout. OTAHUHU LADIES’ Following were the best scores re- ! turned in the L.G.U. medal match played by members of the Otahuhu Ladies’ Golf Club on Saturday:—Miss Mellsop, 90, 20—70; Mrs. Hipkins, 92, 00—72- Miss Cameron. 107, 32—75; Miss Parton, 99, 24—75; Miss O Whiteley 111, 34—77; Miss M. Hill, 111, 34 — 77;’Miss E. Whiteley, 105, 27—78; Mrs. Shaw, 102, 23 —79; Miss E. Katz, 103, C grade scores were: —Miss R. Currie, 7S, 24 —54; ]Vliss J. Buchanan, , 75. 20 —55. The best scores in the season s eclectic foir a trophy donated by Mrs* Currie were:—Miss Richards, 82, 33 — 49; Miss Parton, 74, 24 —50; Miss E. Whiteley, 79, 27 —52,; Miss Mellsop, 7-, best scores for the silver medal were:—Mrs. Hipkins, 296; Miss Mellsop, 296. Bronze medal: Miss Cameron, 299; Miss E. Whiteley, 302. THAMES The holders, Miss Kidd and Mr. A. G. Fisher, of the Price Shield of the Thames Golf Club retained the trophy bv defeating Mrs. W. Price and Mr. E. A Palmer. They were all square on the 17th hole, when Palmer had the misfortune to lose a ball at the next hole. , The bogey match was won by AH. i • S. Miller. _ . , .. The season .will be officially close© on October 12. WAIUKU The Waiuku golf links were officially closed for the 1929 Reason on Saturday, when mixed foursomes were played. The winners being Mrs. Ohlson and Jerram with a net score of 71. The best cards handed in were:—Mrs. Ohlson and Jerram, 90, 19—71; Miss Olvnes and C. Herrold, 92, 20 —72; Miss Aldred and Aldred, 102, IS —74; Miss Austin and Hill, 99, 24—75; Miss Neil and Forbes, 88, 12—76; Miss Muir and Ohlson, 90, 12—78; Mrs. Herrold and A. Herrold, 104, 26—78; Miss Bucker and Bucker, 106. 28—78; Mrs. Roscoe and Flavell, 111, 32 79. NORTHERN WAIROA Prize-winners of the various trophies for the season in connection with the women’s matches of the SVairoa Golf Club are as follow: Championship rose bowl and silver eup: Mrs. Lloyd; runner-up, trophy, Mrs. Crump; Mr. Stark's silver cup; Miss G. Stanaway; Mrs. Lloyd (captain) trophy for three aggregate rounds: Mrs. Mitchell; Miss Thelma Smith's trophy, electric match: Mrs. Mitchell; one club match; Mrs. Hayes; bogey and handicap I match: Mrs. Munn; “C” competition: J Mrs. Marshall; ringer match: Mrs. I Marshall. | Tennis PAPAKURA Two of the tennis clubs were opened on Saturday in Papakura. The Methodist Tennis Club was officially opened by its president, Mr. R. East, in the presence of a large gathering of members and visitors from the Christ Church Club and the Presbyterian Club. Mrs. R. East drove the first ball. The Christ Church Tennis Club held its official opening also. The courts, having been recently resurfaced, were in splendid condition. Mr. H. E. Mogford, patron, officially declared the courts open and his daughter, Miss L. Mogford, drove the first ball. The president, the Rev. W. C. Wood, warmly welcomed the visitors. Glorious weather prevailed. OTOROHANGA , The courts of the St. Andrew's Ten - ; nis Club were opened on Saturday t afternoon, many visitors being pres- ' ent from the Otorohanga and district j tennis clubs. | The Rev. E. H. Kedgley made a few j remarks on the growth and popularity
of the club and the courts were then j declared open by Mrs. Kedgley. Bur- i ing the afternoon tea was provided by | women of the club. EAST TAMAKI There was a large attendance of members of the East Tamaki Tennis Club and visitors from the Papatoetoe, Otahuhu, Howick, Pakuranga and Manurewa Clubs, at the official opening of the East Tamaki Club on Saturday afternoon. The arrangements for the function were in the hands of Miss Ferguson. Mr. James Ross, president of the club, extended a cordial welcome to j the large gathering, and congratulated the club on the excellent condition of the courts, after which he called on Mrs. Ross to play the first ball, when the courts were declared open for play for the 1928-30 season. A series 'of progressive games was played, the women's prize being won \ bv Miss Knight and Mr. Bavistock was 1 successful in the men’s section.
