CLAIM FOR LOST DOG
TWO WOMEN IN COURT SICK ANIMAL ESCAPES rress Association GISBOUXE, Today. A somewhat novel claim for th« value of a dog, £lO. occupied the attention of Mr. P. H. Harper, S.M, in the Magistrate's Court this morning, the action, which was undefended, being between Dorothy L, Hueston. of Gisborne. rnd Mabl* Christmas, of Wellington. Counsel for plaintiff explained that the claim was for the value of a dog sent by plaintiff to defendant for treatment, the dog suffering from in Injury to its eye. After sending tie dog. the first Miss Hueston heard of it was when she received a letter from Miss Christmas to the effect that the dog was lost. She said it hid jumped a wire-netting fence six feet high. Plaintiff wrote back not. accepting the explanation, and on August 5 received a telegram saying that the dog was being shipped to Gisborne ftr identification. When the animal arrived, Miss Hueston found it was nut hers. She shipped it back, and since then had heard nothing further. Formal evidence was given by plaintiff, and the magistrate entered judgment for the amount claimed, and costs.
