MAN STEALS BINOCULARS SPREE COSTS £5 From Our Own Correspondent WHAN G ARE!, Saturday. Wearing galoshes, and remarking that he had no clear recollection of where he had been or what he had been doing in the past few days, Thomas Gratridge was charged in the Police Court with drunkenness and stealing a pair of binoculars. The police stated that Gratridge arrived in Whangarei from Hukerunui some days ago and proceeded to go gn the spree. After his watch and boots had been sqlc! he was left without any other means of continuing his entertainment. Knowing that a benefactor resided in the vicinity of Mail* Street he commenced house-to-house inquiries for him. It may have been to aid him in his search that he picked up a pair of binoculars from a residence. He failed to find his friend, but the police found him. Defendant was fined £5.
