“POOR” MAN’S £10,500

DEPOSITED UNDER 10 NAMES A mau called Frederick William Emery, who apparently had no moans except a small salary, left £10,500 in English post offices in Consols and savings bank deposits. This is revealed by Sir G. S. Robertson. K.C., Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies, in his report for 1928. Sir G. Robertson says that Emery, who died in August 1927, was found to have made his deposits under ten different names, nine of them fictitious. Envelopes for the return by the Post Office of all the deposit books were addressed in Emery’s handwriting. Inquiries were made at all the addresses where the fictitious depositors were supposed to live and in no case was any trace of them found. Sir G. Robertson considered that all the deposits and securities were part of Emery’s estate, and awarded them to Diana Fiances Sutcliffe as administratrix.
