LABOUR DAY SPORTS

FINE PROGRAMME ARRANGED The amateur athletic summer season in Auckland will be ushered in on Labour Day, Monday, October 28, when the Akarana Amateur Cycle and Athletic Club will stage its usual sports gala day at the Domain by permission of the Auckland Centre of the Amateur Athletic Association of New Zealand. The programme includes a 100 yards maiden handicap and a 100 yards amateur Labour Day handicap. It is probable that all the more important amateur athletes in Auckland will appear in the events, as they are anxious to get into form early in the season in view of the visit to the Dominion of a team of crack Canadian athletes. Other events on Labour Day will be 220 and 880 yard track events, several cycle races, and two field events, throwing the discus and putting the shot. There will also be several events for the primary and secondary schools, and a list of novelty events for which post entries will bo taken on the ground.
