Spring Modes At Ellerslie
Glorious weather prevailed for the opening day ot* the* Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting at Ellerslie. and in consequence very smart Crocking was noticeable, the new spring styles making a delightfully refreshing change after winter’s more sombre hues. Coats were still in evidence over the lighter frocks. which ranged through most of the* new shades, including the pretty tints of yellow and green so much favoured at the moment. Hats are more spring like, aiuny of them having the recently introduced lace and openwork brims. Many of the ensembles were showing in light shades of green and beige, these being worn with new styles in bangkok straws. Among those on the lawn: Mrs. K. Raymond was smartly gowned in black moire relieved with auricula yellow; close-fitting hat of black bangkok straw. Mrs. C. "Whitehead had on a smart mulberry costume with hat to tone, and fox furs Lady Sinclair-Lcckbart wore azure blue crepe de chine and blue hat, with black moire coat Lady Nolan had on a black silk ensemble with black bangkok hat and fur necklet. Airs. IT. O. Nolan w ore a black gown and black hat, with moleskin coal. Mrs. E. R. Gunson had on a cocoabrown suit with close-fitting brown hat. Miss Nolan wore a navy ensemble, with navy bangkok hat. Mrs. Douglas had on a smart tweed ensemble with close-fitting beige hat. Airs. Stephen Hunter wore a cigarbrown suit and brown hat. Mrs. Lloyd had on a black fur-trimmed coat and navy straw bat. Mrs. Shuttleworth had on a biscuit crepe dc chine ensemble, with ballibuntal hat to tone. Mrs. TL Buttle wore a bla«~k cloth suit, with black hat, osprey trimmed, and furs. Mrs. G. Reid was gowned in na\ v crepe faille relieved with cerise, black liat and fox furs. Mrs. Spence had on a cedar-wood suit with felt hat to tone. Miss Jean Macindoe wore a grey tweed suir, with royal blue close-fitting felt hat. Miss Ena Potter was in a royal blue silk ensemble, with shady blue hat. Miss Valina Roulston wore a brown and beige ensemble, with beige felt h.v Mrs. A'. Dibble had ou a beige tweed suit, with primrose velour hat. Mrs. Lyon wore a black cloth suit, with black hat. Mrs. Ivin Phillips wore a brown flecked tweed suit, w'ith beige hat. Mrs. Kneebone wore black taffeta faille, with black hat osprey trimmed. Airs. J. Phillips was in navy blue, with beige bangkok hat. Mrs. Boucher had on a brown costume and brown felt hat. Mrs. Louisson had on a lacquer red satin gown, with wide-brim:ned straw hat to tone. Miss Harris had on a navy coat, with navy balibunfal hat and fur necklet. Mrs. Reid, Hamilton, wore a beige costume, with brown straw hat. Mrs. Marriner had on a black flowered ensemble, with black hat with feather mounts. Mrs. J. Hellaby was gowned in black, with daffodil yellow relief. Mrs. Brittain wore a beige suit with brown hat. Miss Molly Bailey had a beige wool suit, with hat to tone, and fur necklet Miss Gwen Kingston was in a black crepe de chine suit with gay scarf and black hat. Miss Peggy Ford was In a black and green printed suit with crepe de china black hat. Miss D. Farquhar bad on a black satin faille suit and hat with cherry red relief. Mrs. Reg Humphries was In lido blue hat and frock, with black moire coat. Miss Marjorie Gambier had on a cherry red ensemble and hat with fur coat. Mrs. Kirby wore naples blue and black w'ith black hat. Miss Gwen Court had on & gentian blue jumper suit and hat. Miss Eileen Spence’s springlike frock was of green printed crepe de chine, with fox furs and hat to tone. Miss Marriner chose a Chinese rod crepe de chine gown with xnongoli&n fox furs and red felt hat. Miss Elsie Farrell wore a green patterned crepe do chine gown, with green felt hat. Mrs. MacDonald had on black satin, with black hat. ermine stole. Mrs. Hor rocks had on navy crepe do chine, with navy felt hat and fox fur. Mrs. Dryden wore a beige tweed coat, with navy and oyster hat. Mrs. Bull w r ore a rose beige suit, with hat to tone, and fox furs. Mrs. A. St. Clair Brown had on a navy frock, with navy and ivory bangkok hat. Airs. Charles Brown bad or. a navy cloth ensemble, with navy felt hat. Mrs. T. Philcox wore a navy bengaline ensemble, with navy ballibuntal hat and furs. Miss Biddy rhilcox wore a brocaded cloth coat, fur trimmed, with scarlet upturned felt bat. Mrs. Watson Airey bad on ro3 - al blue crepe de chine, with canary straw hat. Mrs. Lawford was gowned In navy and oyster flowered ninon. with black bat. ~Miss Ethne Lloyd had on a burgundy suit, with close-fittting hat to tone. Miss Bfetty Oram (Dunedin) had on a black suit and hat with ivory relief. Mrs. Muir (Gisborne) had on a navy ensemble and beige and black hat. Miss Barry (Gisborne) chose a cinnamon brown suit with hat to tone. Miss Linda de Renzy was in azure blue with felt liat to tone. Mrs. Proud had on a brown tweed suit and furs, with beige hat. Mrs. C. Schnauer was in navy with navv hat and furs. Miss Leslie Waller bad on a mustard yellow ensemble suit end hat. Mrs. Rathbone had a black ensemble with relief of cerise. Miss Noakes wore a brown costume and brown felt hat. Mrs. W. Boyle wore mole persian lamb coat and brown hat. Mrs. 11. Bloomfield wore an oyster grey ensemble suit with lace hat with ospreys. Miss Mary Bruce-Hay wore delphinium blue crepe de chine, with blue hat. Miss C. Murray wore a navy suit with navy and cream hat. Miss F. Murray, black ensemble suit, with bla< k liat. Miss F. Gresham, black ensemble suit with mushroom pink hat. Airs. Dransfield chose a black suit, with ermine necklet and small navy hat. Mrs. Rex Carew had on a chocoiat# brown suit and brown hat.
