SHIP DOES BIG DAMAGE

SMASHES WHARF, SINKS KETCHES LOSS ESTIMATED AT £5,000 Reed. 10 a.m. ADELAIDE, Today. The motor-ship Manunda, turning into the Port River, apparently got out of control, snapped a hawser connected to the tug, and crashed stern first into the* Birkenhead wharf. An auxiliary ketch was crushed to matchwood, and sank immediately. A huge gap was made in the wharf. Piles two feet in diameter were snapped off, and two other ketches "ere badly damaged. The owners managed to scramble to safety. The damage to the wharf is estimated at £3,000, and to the ketches at £2,000. The Manunda’s stern was badly dented.
