NEW ZEALAND ATHLETES WELCOMED IN THE R.A.F.
| Many athletes in the North Island—and perhaps in the South—have had their eyes on the successes achieved b :•* a number of young men who have left the Dominion to take up the profession of fij'ing in other parts of the world, but mostly in the Royal Air Force, which appears to be very partial to New Zealanders. Among those win have been successful in this direction may be mentioned T. McNicol. G. Williams. F. Truman. J. R. Matthews and "Doggy” White. McNicol'and Williams were both members of the Berhampore : Football Club, Wellington, and went to England together to join the R.A.F'. Truman is a well-known North Island athlete, who is best remembered in Wellington and Gisborne. Matthews comes from Hawke's Bay. and a year or two back worked in a legal office in Napier, but today he is a fully-quali-fied fij’ing officer holding a commission in the R.A.F. and serving on the Afghan frontier. White was also a resident.of Hawke's Bay, and left Hastings orth' a few months ago for England with the intention of "ioining UD.”
