SIXTEEN AIRPLANES STILL IN RUNNING ONE DOWN IN DESERT Reed. 9 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. A Ceduna message states that 16 planes in the air race from Sydney to Perth have arrived, but Leggatt, in a Curtis Meteor, has withdrawn owing to engine trouble. Pilot Penny met with a mishap on the first stage to Kimba, coming down in the desert. He managed, however, to reach Kimba.

Following are the fastest actual flying times from Sydney to Ceduna, 1,250 miles. Miller, DH9, 12 hours 33 minutes. De Havilland, Moth, 12 hours 44 minutes. Heath, DHSO, 13 hours 7 minutes., Pratt, Moth, 13 hours 50 minutes.
