DANCE AND EUCHRE
ST. ANNE'S GUILD OTAHUHU GATHERING The popularity of the fortnightly functions held under the auspices of the St. Anne's Guild, Otahuhu, was again evidenced on Saturday evening, for. notwithstanding the calls made upon patrons by other events, there was an assemblage of more than 140 i on this occasion. About forty couples danced to the j choice programme of excellent music ] supplied by Aliss AI. Darby’s orchestra. The floor was in splendid condb tion. The duties of AI.C. were ably j carried out by Air. T. O’Connell. A barn dance competition was a novelty greatly appreciated, the honours falling to Airs. G. Johnson and Air. Eddlcston. The Alonte Carlo competition was won by Aliss Torr and Air. I. Kelly. Among those present were: Airs. Jones, who wore sage green faille with flared frills; Airs. Brennan, black crepe de chine, with red shoulder posy; Airs. At'. Darby, black georgette: Airs. AV. Giblin, navy frock: Aliss A'. AATiite, green panne velvet: Aliss XT. White, old rose taffeta; Airs. Hall, black georgette; Miss Rene Ryan, lemon lace, uneven hemline;- Aliss AI. Darby, navy crepe de chine: Aliss G. Hayden, blue sprig taffeta with uneven hemline; Aliss Loader, black satin with oriental trimmings; Aliss AI. Nobbs, apricot taffeta: Aliss K. Elliott, cyclamen crepe de chine and georgette, and posy to tone; Aliss G. Elliott, gold tissue and tulle; Aliss N. Hughes, orange crepe de chine with diamente trimmings; Aliss F. Philp, green crepe de chine with posy to tone. BLUE" CREPE DE CHINE Airs. Eddleston was in blue crepe de chine with trimmings to tone; Miss J. Clark, black crepe de chine; Aliss R. Hart, lime green crepe de chine; Miss M. Murphy, apricot taffeta and silver lace; Aliss B. Bowling, green brocaded satin; Aliss V. Blackburn, ivory crepe de chine; Aliss N. Shorrock. silver shot taffeta, with silver trimming; Airs. AV. Douglas, mauve crepe de chine and silver lace, with shawl to tone; Airs. AV. James, flowered crepe de chine; Airs. Allanson, navy repp; Airs. Eccles, navy crepe de chine with gold trimming. Aliss E. Torr had on a georgette frock with floral trimmings; Aliss V. Drum in, foxglove crepe de chine and floral lame; Miss E. Kelly, navy blue satin; Miss E. Elliott, green floral georgette; Aliss D. Woods, blue georgette over silver lame; Airs. E. Kelly, black satin: Airs. E. AlcAnulty. navy repp: Aliss Eccles. tomato shade repp; Miss Edna Kelly, pink crepe de chine with gold trimming; Aliss AV. Clark, blue crepe de chine with shawl to tone; and many other's, particulars of whose frocking were not secured. The euchre tournament was held in an adjoining room, 50 players participating under the capable management of Air. Richard Stack. At the conclusion of the games, the six choice and valuable prizes were presented by the Rev. Father Dunphy, who, on behalf of the management, thanked the players for their support and co-operation in making these fortnightly events the pleasant and sociable gatherings they have undoubtedly been. He trusted that by bringing their friends with them on the next occasion. October 12, they would see the community spirit still further extended.
There followed supper prepared by the ladies of the guild and generously supplied with a variety of delicacies, the dancers sitting after the euchre* players had finished. Many of the latter adjourned to the dancing hall on the resumption of the programme, where the happy throng radiating the spirit of mutual goodwill and reciprocal pleasure brought the blissful evening to a close with the National Anthem on the stroke of midnight.
