Detectives Raid Grey Avenue House

ALLEGED OPIUM DEN SEVEN CHINESE ARRESTED Patiently awaiting their chance until someone was let out of the front door, four detectives managed to force a way into a Grey Avenue house last evening. As a result, seven Chinese were arrested and charged in the Police Court this morning. £HE TONG, aged 24, All Soo, aged 24, Chin Bow, aged 32, Ah Wong, aged 35, all gardeners, and Ah Jack. «*ged 29. and Ah Tong, aged 35, both •aundrymen, were charged with being unlawfully found in possession of prepared opium. Ah Chin, a laundryman, aged 29, was charged with using the Premises at 54 Grey Avenue for the Purpose of opium smoking. Geeson applied for a remand until Tuesday, which was granted by F. K. Hunt, S.M., who fixed bail 'or each accused in the sum of £25. According to the police, Detectives Nalder and McWhirter and Actingbetectives Stevenson and Packman ft ad been on the raid. They had baited outside the house until the font door had been opened to let someone out. Then two of the depm^V6s forced a way in. Four '-nineae had been arrested on the ground floor, but, to get the other nree, It had been necessary to force nree other doors. An attempt had een made to burn pipes and other apparatus for opium smoking in a kerosene tin. Opium was found on the Premises. The raid was carried out
