BIRKENHEAD FUNCTION Under a. canopy of the queen's colours, lincoln green, the Foresters’ Hall, Birkenhead, looked very gay on Monday evening, when a successful children’s fancy dress bajl was held in the interests of the Friendly Societies’ ciuecn, Miss L#. McPhail. The judges had a very busy time in choosing the winners. Mrs. J . Grade, the organiser, chose a lavender taffeta frock, relieved with sold lace. The judges were: Mrs. Hillam. in a frock of black net and crepe de chine: Miss A. Willis, who chose rose crene de chine, with gold trimmings; Miss J. Fert'usson. who was wearing white georgette, with uneven hem and diamente trimmings: and Miss Banks, who chose a frock of peach taffeta. The prize winners were: over 9. Best dressed girl: Joan Oldbury, ISth Century; best dressed boy: Colin McPhail, Flit; best dressed girl, under 1): Florence Mahoney, Bride; boy, Groom, Kirk Bogie; original, girl over Dorothy Thomas, Knitting; hoy, Fred Whitcombe, Fijian Chief; most original, girl under 9: Joyce Hark in and Betty Bark in, as Cake Cups; most comical, gjrl over 9: Eileen Fraser, Sleepless Knight; hoy, Vincent Ratridge, Bear; most comical, girl under 9: Betty Brown, Miss 1929; boy, Cecil Mills, Gnome. Special Prizes; Eileen Neben, New Zealand Bush: Vera Casey, British Goods; Joan Farrington, Boy Blue; tiny tots, Joy Clow, Powder Puff; Audrey Brown, Rainbow: Bllis Lytton.
