MORE THAN 40,000 REGISTERED

Between them the farmers of New Zealand own more than 40,521 motor vehicles, according to a return presented to Parliament today at the request of Mr. W. J. Broadfoot (Waitomo). The number of cars registered and owned is 36,132. and the number of trucks 4,359. The figures represent the number of vehicles licensed in 1929-30 by people describing themselves as follows—Farmers, agi iculturists, breedei’s, dairy farmers, orcliardists, market gardeners, poultry farmers, apiarists, graziers! horticulturists, and settlers. The figures do not include all vehicles owned by farmers for the reason that a large number of the registrations is in names of women describing their occupations as domestic duties.
