TARIFF TRUCE SCHEME

CANADA CLOSELY WATCHING UNITED STATES ’ “MUST KEEP HANDS FREE” (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) QUEBEC, Sunday. The Federal Minister of Customs and Excise, Mr. W. D. Euler, today commented upon the move at the Assembly of the League of Nations for a reduction or abolition of tariffs, and the proposal ' for a two years’ tariff truce. Pending possible developments in the United States, said Mr. Euler, Canada should keep her hands absolutely free. The United States was now working on the tariff with a view to increasing it and shutting out Canada’s products. He did not think it would be justifiable for Canada to be open to countries which were closing their doors to her. The Minister has returned from Geneva, where he was one of Canada’s delegates to the Assembly.
