LONG SERVICE ENDED
LABOUR DEPARTMENT SECRETARY MR. F. W. ROWLEY TO RETIRE (From Our Resident Reporter) WELLINGTON, Today. For tlie last 16 years 'secretary to the Labour Department, Mr. F. W. Rowley, 1.5.0., Is about to retire on superannuation and has handed in his resignation to the Prime Minister. Joining the Department o£ Labour in 1893 as a cadet, Mr. Rowley has been intimately connected with the development o£ labour legislation in New Zealand. During his career he has been accountant, chief clerk and inspector of factories, finally becoming secretary, chief inspector of factories, and registrar of unions and registi'ar of apprentices. In 1922, when the administration of the Weights and Measures Act was given to the Department of Labour, he was appointed chief inspector of weights and measures.
His active service will end this month, since he has been granted, in recognition of his work, six months leave of absence before his retirement. After a trip through the Islands he will settle in 'Wellington.
