Departing Officers Give Fa rewe HEnterta i n ;; len t GAY DECORATIONS The quarterdeck of H.M.S. Diomede looked very gay last evening, when a farewell dance was given by the officers of the New Zealand Squadron who depart for England this week. The deck was enclosed with awning, and hung with brightly-coloured Chinese lanterns, giving a very attractive effect. A volunteer band consisting of seamen from H.M.S. Diomede and H.M.S. Dunedin supplied excellent dance music, which was much enjoyed. A shed on the wharf was transformed for the purposes of supper, the walls being draped with flags, and lanterns strung across the ceiling. Iceland poppies and anemones in bowls gave a charmingly decorative effect to the tables. On arrival, the guests were received at the gangway by Commander L. V. Wells, D.S.O. Among those present were: Mrs. L. V. "Wells, who wore a frock of midnight bluer georgette, with, an uneven hem. Mrs. Nelson Clover had on a frock of bronze ring velvet. Mrs. A. IV. Gunn was in a sage green lace frock, relieved w'ith ivory. Mrs. It. E. Jeffreys had on a charming frock of floral chiffon. Mrs. J. D. Prentice was f rocked in beige floral ninon. Mrs. It. F. Jessel w r as wearing a frock of floral chiffon, with uneven liem. Mrs. C. M. Croft chose midnight blue georgette, with an uneven hem. Mrs. Frank Abbott wore ivory* satin, embroidered in rhinestones. Mrs. B. M. Douglas had on a frock of capucine ring velvet, with a draped skirt. Mrs. Norman was in delphinium blue chiffon. Miss Mary Ann Gascoigne had chosen a frock of wfiite taffeta. Miss D. Vaile w r as in a draped frock of Wack georgette. Miss Jean Lawford wore a frock of gentian blue lace. A palm green chiffon frock was favoured by Miss Phillipa Nairn. Miss M. Nairn was wearing a bronze lace frock. Miss J. Bloomfield had on forest green spotted tulle. Miss Lesley Walker wore gold lame and gold lace. Miss Pamela Clover was in a frock of rose floral ninon. Miss Olive Mcllraith chose a white satin frock. Miss Nancy e Colbeck was wearing cameo pink sprigged taffeta. Miss Rosemary Waller wore powder blue georgette. Miss Jean Macindoe was in a frock of cameo pink satin beaute, with an embroidered lame panel. Miss Elizabeth Burns had on a sedge green lace frock. Miss D. Filleray was wearing black taffeta. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY HAPPY GREY LYNN FUNCTION A delightfully gay party was tendered by Mr. and Mrs. J. Rosieur at their residence, Old Mill Road, on Saturday evening, in honour of the com—-ing-of-age of their son John. The rooms were prettily decorated with streamers of blue and lemon, and tall vases of spring blooms decked the supper tables. Dancing was indulged in, and musical items were contributed by Misses A. Bridges, IT. Rosieur and D. Langley. Mrs. Rosieur received the guests wearing a pretty frock of sapphire embossed crepe de chine. Among the guests present were: Mrs. Symondson, wearing a dainty frock of patterned ninon, with diamente trimmings; Mrs. Andrews, coffee georgette and satin carreau; Mrs. Dainty, sapphire crepe de chfne, with floral reliefs; Mrs. McMillin, beige marocain, with trimmings of velvet; Mrs. Jessie Rosieur, coffee crepe de chine, finished with a diamente buckle; Miss 13lah Rosieur, ashes of roses crepe de chine; Miss H. Rosieur, daffodil crepe de chine and gold lace; Miss Connie Rosieur, coral pink satin romaine, with reliefs of ivory pleats; Miss Dulcie Langley, nile green georgette with lace trimmings; Miss P. Dil worth, lichen green georgette, finished with a daffodil shoulder posv; Miss Laurel McArthur, art blue silk elise, finished with a fawn posy relief; Miss Frances Peckham, black georgette with relief of electric blue; Miss O. Irwin, unrelieved black crepe de chine. Miss Nellie Marriage, who was in a frock of black silk repp and lace; Miss A. McDonagh, iris mauve taffeta, with tulle skirt; Miss C. Mulqueen, sahnon pink embossed georgette; Miss B. Grant, lettuce green georgette; Miss M. Taylor, lime green georgette, with lace overdress; Miss G. Langley, sunset georgette, with diamente trimmings; Miss A. Bridges, black jersey silk, with patterned taffeta trimmings. AERO CLUB BALL ARRANGEMENTS WELL IN HAND In keeping with the progressive spirit of the Auckland Aero Club, the annual ball, to be held in the Town Hall next Friday, promises to be one of the social events of the year. One of the guests of the evening will be Wing-Commander S. Grant Dalton, D. 5.0., A.F.C., who l-ecentlv arrived from England to take up the position of director of air services in the Dominion. Xo effort is being spared in providing a brilliant function, and the aviation atmosphere will be incorporated in the special decorations now nearing completion by a committee of the following:—Mesdames J.
