MOUNT EDEN ADHERES TO PRESENT POLICY The Mount Eden Borough Council last evening did not agree with a notice of motion by Mr. W. H. Nagle seeking amendments to the duties of the engineer. The motion asked that the engineer be given full control of his department, including all outside work except water control and the fire brigade, under an executive consisting of the Mayor and the chairman of the Works Committee. Mr. Nagle and other speakers who supported the motion contended that ; there had been a lack of cohesion between the Works and Finance Com- ! mittees. The speakers maintained that there was no parallel case in municipal affairs where a high official was deprived of his duties. The Mayor, Mr. E. IT. Potter, pointed out that all the main works had been j under the supervision of the engineer.
