LAST FAREWELLS
H.M.S. DIOMEDE SAILS TOMORROW VOYAGE TO ENGLAND Officers and men of H.M.S.. Diomede are saying good-bye to their friends and relatives in Auckland this afternoon as there will be no time for farewells tomorrow before the cruiser sails at 11 a.m. Last night a dance was held on board and this evening the warrant officers will entertain their fellow officers of the New Zealand Squadron, and their wives. After her departure tomorrow morning, the Diomede will proceed to the Hauraki Gulf, where she will join H.M.S. Dunedin for a short gunnery practice. About 3 p.m., she will leave on her journey to Chatham, which has now been selected as her final destination. Following Is the itinerary:—Arrive Nukualofa October 5, sail October 7: arrive Bora Bora, October 10, sail October 11; arrive Papeete October 2, sail October 14; arrive Nukuhiva October 17, sail October 18; arrive Galapagos Islands October 27, sail October 30; arrive Balboa November 2. sail November 3; arrive Colon November 3, sail same day: arrive Trinidad November 7, sail November 12; arrive Madeira November 21, sail November 23; arrive Gibraltar November 25, sail November 27; arrive Chatham December 2. At Nukuhiva the Diomede will be fuelled by the Admiralty tanker Nucula, and at Papeete she will tranship stores from the Royal Mail liner Makura.
H.M.S. Dunediu left port at 11 o'clock this morning for the Hauraki Gulf. Tomorrow evening she will sail for Akaroa, Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington, where she will remain from October 24 to November 28, while the crew attends the annual musketry course at Trentham. A visit will be paid to Southern ports again before the cruiser arrives back .n Auckland on December 6.
