NEW DEVONPORT THEATRE

TO BE OPENED TOMORROW During the past few months Devo’. port's Theatre, the Victoria, has beta demolished and entirely rebuilt. The new Victoria Theatre is the last word in comfortable and modern theatres—spacious, with luxurious seating and above a 11, specially constructed to ensure the best acoustic properties for the showing of talkies. The theatre will be officially opened tomorrow evening, the opening cere* mony being performed by Mr. J. Hislop, Deputy-Mayor of Devonport. The initial programme is an alltalkie one, and will be headed by the all-talking comedy-drama of a typical American small-town entitled ‘Th® Home Towners.” Richard Bennett and Gladys Brockwell are the stars. The supporting programme will comprise a number of short talkie features. TIVOLI

“IT CAN BE DONE" One of the best comedies that has appeared here in months is Glenn Tryon’s latest starring picture, “It Can Be Done,” now showing at the Tivoli Theatre. The story concerns the mishaps of a young man, with a decided inferiority complex, who tries to sell a manuscript of “success” to his former boss. The tale is jammed with sparkling comedy moments and ludicrous farcical situations. Tryon renders a superb performance and Sue Carol is adorable as the leading lady. The picture was directed by Fred Newmeyer. “The Royal Rider,” a Ken Maynard picture, is the second attraction.
