MANUREWA TOWN BOARD
A member of the Manurewa Town Board, Mr. Frost, tendered his resignation to the board last evening. The resignation was accepted. When Mr. Fawcett reported the decision of a special meeting of the works committee to defer the work of fencing the eastern side of the Great South Road from the public school to Corin Avenue, the chairman, Mr. Gallaher, said the board should accept the decision of the committee. It was finally decided to defer consideration of the question till there was a full attendance of members. Owing to the poor attendance of the public at a recent lecture held under the auspices of the Workers’ Educational Association, it was decided not to have any further lectures. The chairman drew the board’s attention to the unsatisfactory state of the bitumen shoulders on the approach to the overhead bridge, and recommended that the shoulders should be put down in concrete grouting instead of bitumen. He said the shoulders on the sharp bends were also showing signs of wear. The clerk was authorised to write to the Main Highways Board and ask if a subsidy would be granted on concrete grouting. The advisability of erecting danger signs at the approaches to schools was dealt with by Mr. Gallaher. It was decided to refer the question to the traffic inspector for a report, and the town clerk was authorised to obtain prices for the regulation signs.
