ATHLETIC UNION
ANNUAL MEETING HELD There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Northern Athletic Union held last evening, Mr. R. Coulter, of Te Aroha, occupying the chair. The report stated that the number of affiliated clubs was 70—a slight decrease on the figures for the previous year. Prospects for the coming season, however, w*ere particularly bright. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr. J. N. I. McKay, Waipu, and Mr. L. Kitehing. Northern Wairoa, prominent members of the union. The balance-sheet showed a slight debit due to the heavy expenses of the delegates to the last conference in Auckland. It was decided that A. Preston’s request for the repeal of his suspension by the Victorian Council be deferred until the next annual meeting. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. R. Coulter (Te Aroha): vice-presidents, Messrs. Jones (Tangitu) and J. M. Dawson (Victoria Valley); auditor, Mr. E. H. Edmonds (Te Aroha); council, Messrs. Swain (Waiuku), Draper (Maungaka-. ramea), Pilkington (Te Aroha), Vernon (Te Aroha), Ruddy (Whakatane), Bentnett (Ruawai), Keen (Awakeri), Shannon (Springdale): handicappers, Messrs. F. T. McAneny (Auckland), and C. Morrison (Te Aroha) for field events, and C. L. Hardy (Auckland) for chopping and sawing; secretary, Mr. J. L. Harris (Otahuhu).
