SMART POLICE WORK
RECOGNISED BY COMMISSIONER REWARD FOR CONSTABLE The excellent work of members of the Auckland Police Force was the subject of some remarks by Inspector J. W. Hollis, when he addressed the non-commissioned officers and men at the monthly parade yesterday. Over 100 men were on parade from the Auckland central and metropolitan districts. In his address, Inspector Hollis referred to the splendid work which had been done recently by both the detective and uniform branches of the service, with flie result that crime in Auckland has been greatly reduced, and several law-breakers had been captured. Inspector Hollis also brought to the notice of the parade the special recommendations which liad been made to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. W. B. Mcllveney, regarding the work of Constables Whitehead and Hayes, who made such smart arrests recently. The commissioner had signified his approval of these recommendations, and the constables concerned are to receive marks for meritorious conduct. In one instance a reward is to be made. The inspector also mentioned the work of the men who had been responsible for apprehending two men in Newton and another in a shop on the waterfront.
