OFFER CANCELLED
SUPPLY OF WATER TO NORTH SHORE DECISION BY CITY Its decision to withdraw its offer to supply water at 6d a thousand gallons at the Waitakere break-pressure tank was notified by the Auckland City Council yesterday afternoon to the North Shore Boroughs Water Board. Members of the board decided that no comment was necessary at the present time, and the council’s letter was received. “There is no need to worry about the question just now,” remarked Mr. J. W. Williamson, Mayor of Takapuna, and the Mayor of .Devonport, Mr. E. Aldridge, agreed that the board could do nothing at the moment. The council’s letter added that it had recently been decided to increase the cost of water supplied to consumers drawing from the city’s sources of supply. The scheme concerning the North Shore is the proposed erection of a water pipe-line from the Waitakeres across a narrow part of the Waitemata Harbour.
