WHANGAREI FIXTURE ATTRACTIVE PROGRAMME I Once again the Whangarei Racing j Club is in the field with a splendid programme for its spring meeting, to jbe held on Thursday and Saturday, ! November 7 and 9. In all the stake ! money 011 offer amounts to £2,826 — first day £1,501, second day £1,325. There is an additional attraction for owners of handicap horses in the shape of a handsome gold cup for the winner of the Whangarei Cup, in addition to £340 in hard cash. It is a splendid stake for the Whangarei Club to offer, and it is significant that, taking the trophy into consideration, the Cup contest is actually worth more than the stake won by Piuthair last Monday. The enterprise of the popular Northern club should be rewarded by receiving bumper nominations. The fixture is still six weeks off, but a note should be made by owners and trainers of nomination day. Friday, October 11, at 5 p.m., with the ' secretary at Whangarei, or with Messrs. Blomfield and Company, Auckland. Running No Risks London “Sporting Life” states that ] the American National Jockey Club proposes to institute an international ! race at Arlington Park in July, if it j can obtain the co-operation of the leading sportsmen of Great Britain and the Continent. The proposed race will be modelled on the Ascot Gold Cup, and the added money is suggested as ' 100.000 dollars. Mr. and Mrs. Hertz f (Reigh Count’s owners) have offered to augment the stake with an additional 100,000 dollars if Invershin is a challenger. Invershin, owned by Mr. J Reid Walker, beat Reigh Count in the Ascot Gold Cup, but Mr. Walker is not to be tempted by dollars, and he has I refused to nominate Invershin, statin.? that the horse will go to the stud, and already the subscription list is 1 large.
