WELSH NONAGENARIAN
MR. T. EVANS, OF ONEHUNGA NINETY-ONE TOMORROW Still hale and in good spirits, Mr. Thomas Evans, of 92 Grey Street East, Onehunga, will he 91 tomorrow. Mrs. Evans, who Is also in good health, is in her 86th year. They celebrated their golden wedding 16 years ago at Onehunga, and their | diamond wedding at the residence of ! their son, Mr. W. Evans, of Auck- ; land. 1 Born in Wales, Mr. Evans was taken I as a child to England by his parents, i He became a prosperous boot manuj facturer in Burton-on-Trent. Mr. and Mrs. Evans were married on July 13, j 1863, in Bilston Church, Wolverhampj ton, Staffordshire. With three sons \ and two daughters the}' came to New Zealand in November, ISS3 and Mr. j Evans opened a bootshop in Karanga- | hape Road. j He maintained the business for : seven years and owing *o failing i health took up a farm at Waitakere, j W'here he worked hard for 20 years. | He disposed of the property and went ito Onehunga. Mrs. Evans’s sister, ! Mrs. Holcroft, who acted as her i bridesmaid, is still alive and lives at j Wolverhampton. | Mr. an'd Mrs. Evans’s children will be present at their father’s birthday ! celebration tomorrow.
