CALAMITOUS DAY FOR CHINESE ARMY REBEL GENERAL’S VICTORY (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.5 a.m. SHANGHAI, Tuesday. A serious blow has been dealt to the national forces which are operating against the rebel general, Chang Fahk-Wei, in the vicinity of Ichang, on the Upper Yangtse, resulting in the capture of two river transports and 5,000 of the national troops. Three steamers loaded with troops were dispatched up the river. They encountered heavy shellfire from the rebels, resulting in 50 Nationalists being killed and several hundred wounded. One vessel escaped.
