“THE WHIP” AT ROYAL

The film version of a famous stage racing melodrama, ‘‘The Whip,” heads the current programme at the Theatre Royal, Kingsland. The leading roles are played by Dorothy Mackaill, Ralph Forbes, Anna Q. Xilsson, Lowell Sherman, Albert Gran and other artists of note, all of whom acquit themselves well in parts demanding exceptional ability. The film deals with the career of Lord Brancaster, who is engaged to marry Madame d’Aquila, a schemer, but before the wedding suffers from concussion and loss of memory. While convalescing he falls in love again, and the resulting complications, seen against a background of English horse racing, are most interesting. Noah Beery is the star of the second picture, entitled “The Hour of Fear.”
