WATER ADDED TO MILK

FARMER FINED £4 RAIN IN OPEN CANS BLAMED From Our Oxen Correspondent PAPAKURA, Today. Added water to the extent of 12 per cent, found in milk taken from the farm of John Frost, of Runciman, to an Auckland firm of milk vendors, on July 25, cost Frost a £4 fine and £1 6s 9d costs when he appeared in the Papakura Magistrate’s Court this morning before Mr. F. IT. Levien, S. M. Inspector T. C. Thompson deposed that lie took a sample from some cans on a lorry which defendant’s son was driving to the city. Analysis showed 12 per cent, of added water. For the defendant, Mr. G. X. Wallace explained that the son milked on the previous evening, defendant being in the city where he was appearing before the Land Board. I-Tis son, who was married, at seven o’clock on the same evening, being in a hurry left the lids off the milk cans. Heavy rain fell in the night with the result that water got into the milk. Counsel produced a certificate showing that defendant was paid on the butterfat content in the milk so that there was no pecuniary gain from the added water.
